My name is Steven; you might have seen me around—as a guy with a wheelchair and a dog. I’m hard to miss!

I moved to Petaluma from SF about five years ago with my wife Sonja.

It’s a beautiful area to live, especially in the spring.

I found The Redwood Club because after moving here I wanted a gym with a pool… several gyms have come and gone over the years but the Redwood Club had been here for DECADES. So I started my membership and was pleasantly surprised at the great staff and members  that I got acquainted with (that sounds like a press release but it’s true).

My dog’s name is Kerwin. He came from Canine Companions for Independence and is a highly trained service dog; he just turned four and has been with me for two years.

I have MS. When things worsened for me a year ago, I had trouble “bouncing back” (not even close). I started personal training sessions with Geri. We work together 2 times a week.  We  start with the core and move out from there working on my arms and legs. We work on strength and flexibility. These workouts are about more than just performance at the gym; my whole life is improved. Frankly I wish I’d started working on my form & core years ago when I was “able bodied”.

If you are a member of the Redwood Club, you may have seen Steven and his canine companion, Kerwin, around the facilities. Steven moved to Petaluma from San Francisco about five years ago with his wife, Sonja. Pleased with their move to Petaluma, Steven finds that the area is a beautiful place to live, especially in the spring!

Steven discovered the Redwood Club after moving to the area because he wanted to find a gym with a pool. Several gyms had come and gone in the area, but the Redwood Club has been in the area for DECADES, which helped guide his decision. Steven explained that he is extremely pleased with his choice because the Redwood Club has great staff and health club members that he has become acquainted with.

Steven works out with his canine companion Kerwin, from Canine Companions for Independence. Kerwin is a highly trained service dog that helps provide assistance to Steven. Kerwin is four years old but has been with Steven for two years.

Kerwin provides assistance to Steven because he has MS. When things worsened for Steven a year ago, he had trouble “bouncing back”. To help him recover, he began personal training sessions with Geri at the Redwood Club. Steven and Geri work together two times a week. During each session, Steven and Geri start work on the core and move out to the arms and legs while focusing on improving both strength and flexibility.

When asked about his personal training sessions, Steven stated that “these workouts are about more than just performance at the gym; my whole life is improved”!
